VolkerInfra – Burbo Bank Extension / Bodelwyddan Unlicensed Substation Bay
Project Overview
The BBW02 export cable system consists of a 220kV Export Cable system connecting the Offshore Substation with the Onshore Substation. The route length of the onshore Export Cable is approximately 11km, whereas the offshore Export Cable is 25km. The 220kV Export Cable system ends at the DONG Energy Onshore Substation. A 400kV cable connection is established from the DONG Energy Onshore Substation to the 400kV Bodelwyddan substation of National Grid located approximately 500m away.
Scope of Works
The APS scope related to the civil package of works to be done within and in the immediate vicinity of the Bodelwyddan 400kV National Grid substation and includes the following:
- Construct a reinforced concrete CSE foundation
- Construct in-situ concrete troughs for the cable entry
- Construct concrete foundations for the PRR container
- Install ducted cable system for HV Cables within NG Substation
- Extend duct installation above the High Pressure Gas Main outside the NG Bodelwyddan boundary fence
- Install multicore ducts inside NG substation
- Install multicore chamber pits
- Install 3xSteel CSE supports
- All associated temporary works designs
- All reinstatements to NG´s requirements
- Supply and Connection to existing NG Cu earth mat from all relevant foundations
- Construction of intermediate joint bays (JB)
- Supply and install earth rod and earth mat for joint bays
- Sheath testing of the newly installed cables
- Provision of Site Project Management for the linear cable civil and cable installation under a Professional Services Agreement
